Scan Hub Sponsors Spirit of Australia 2 for World Water Speed Record
In 1977 Australia’s Ken Warby piloted Spirit of Australia to beat the world record previously held by greats such as Sir Malcolm Campbell, Donald Campbell and Lee Taylor. Spirit of Australia set the new world record of 317mph in 1978, a record that has stood for more than 40 Years. The Spirit of Australia is now an exhibit in the National Maritime Museum in Sydney.
Over the last few years, Ken and son Dave have been developing Spirit of Australia 2. Dave has plans to set a new Outright Unlimited World Water Speed Record of 350mph in the “Spirit” on Blowering Dam in NSW. Scan Hub has been working with Dave and his team to document Spirit 2 in 3D. We have laser scanned the hull and modelled it to millimeter precision in 3D. The models can be used for hull modifications, dynamic analysis and scale reproduction.
